Welcome to the SACT Safety campaign
Our aim is simple. We want to see clinicians throughout the UK properly protected from harm when they administer cytotoxic systemic anti cancer therapy (SACT) through the use of closed system drug transfer devices (CSDTDs)
Every day. Every time. Every treatment
ABOUT us
The SACT Safety campaign is led by experienced chemotherapy nurses and Birmingham City University (BCU) academics Alison Simons and Samantha Toland.
It is their vision to see every round of cytotoxic systemic anti cancer therapy (SACT) administered using a closed system drug transfer device (CSDTD).
Only then will healthcare workers be properly protected from the risk of exposure to the potentially harmful drugs.
What is a closed system drug transfer device?
CSDTD is defined as a drug transfer device that mechanically prohibits the transfer of environmental contaminants into the system and the escape of hazardous drug or vapour concentrations outside the system (NIOSH 2004)
